There's a number of ways it could happen, but regardless you find yourself standing on the outskirts of a city. A beautiful city, as familiar to you as any from your world, with all manner of buildings within sight. A sign on the side of the road greets you, saying WELCOME TO COBA You're already part of the family! It's practically inviting you to step into the city limits. Why don't you?

As soon as you do, you'll find a pamphlet in your hand, almost eager to tell you all about what this mysterious Coba has to offer. And eager seems to be the impression you get about almost everything - the sun seems to brighten, the flowers seem to perk up - it's almost as if everything about Coba is welcoming you as an honored guest.

And you are. Though hopefully, only temporarily. Coba would love nothing more for you to become an honored member of her precious community.

Welcome to the City of Coba Testdrive! Your character has found themselves in Coba, and are welcome to do any of the following:

● As you enter the city, you hear some bustle about a homecoming party! Following the signs will find yourself at a plaza with food, drink and live music, of all sorts and types. Why don't you stay awhile and indulge?

● Or, if you're not the party type, maybe you'd like to check out the city's cultural center! There's art, books, and other things to keep your mind occupied. And, maybe you'll meet other like-minded people there.

● Not in the mood for any of the above? There's always the beach! It's a lovely day, the waves are beautiful and the stores along the boardwalk all have signs up that read "TAKE WHAT YOU NEED". Maybe you need a surf board.

● Or maybe you have something else you want to do? Go for it! You're more than welcome to come up with your own prompts.

In addition to the above, we would love to encourage anyone taking part in the testdrive to world build with us! Whether it be a street name or an entire neighborhood, whatever you come up with will become part of the game's canon. All we ask is that you pop over here to link us so we can see what you've done!

Like what? Planning another party?

[It's a genuine question, despite the teasing tone in Tyler's voice as he wanders over. His pamphlet is long gone, but he's got two bottles of whiskey lemonade in hand. He's still not sure where he got that, actually... He holds it out as a peace offering.]

[....Silence as she just stares at him for a long moment before cautiously taking the bottle like it might bite her.]

Like finding a way to rescue ..Wait, why are you being nice to me?

Uh, why wouldn't I be nice? [The teasing in his voice disappears completely as he looks back at her.] Care, did I do something again?

Because I swear, I'll get the stuff out of the dryer whenever I head back.

[Full stop for a moment here because this is something completely unexpected. Tyler acting like they're a couple again.

Tyler apparently not knowing that she slept with Klaus and they were broken up.]

...This is weird.

[Cracks open the bottle and takes a long drink.]

What were you doing before you...er...woke up here?

[That's not the typical Caroline response to his messiness. Nor is it even remotely close to what happens whenever he screws up their domestic life. (In his defense, he... he got nothing. Mom hired cleaning ladies.)

He furrows his brow, trying to think of possibilities. Did something happen with Klaus again? Had to be.]

I was at school. Helping out the frat with their upcoming blood drive, since they're less likely to suspect me of taking a sip.

[That's not a remotely helpful answer, so he presses his lips together. If she doesn't think he'd be nice to her, chances are, she doesn't remember anything about Whitmore life. So he has to say:] What do you remember? Before coming here?

...We kind of broke up. Well, I mean there was a reason for it, but we haven't really spoken since for...obvious reasons.

And I wasn't at school, I kind of dropped out with all the trying to find a way to rescue Bonnie...

Oh. [He stares down awkwardly at his bottle, finally taking the time to open it - and his gold-plated watch may gleam a little stronger as he uncaps the bottle and takes a long sip.]

Even if we weren't dating, Care - I'd help you look for Bonnie. [Friendship to the max, right? Bros before hoes, etc. This Tyler values those far more than the girlfriends that had wandered in and out of his life.] What happened to her?

She and Damon got trapped on the Other Side right before it collapsed.

And, well as for the breaking up, I kind of ...well I did something you couldn't really forgive. [Bad decisions were a thing.]

I tried to apologize, but with all the Klaus stuff, we hadn't really been doing well for a while before that...

What?

[There is not enough booze in the world for all of this news - Damon getting trapped in what was (probably) a parallel dimension; Care and him breaking up over Klaus; and their relationship having problems?? He suspects he needs to sit down. For a really long time.]

I'm sorry, we-- I'm probably not your Tyler. I don't remember any of that stuff. ["Nor do I think I want to."] But let's start with the big thing - Damon and Bonnie. You haven't talked to Stefan about getting them out of that parallel universe?

[Stefan, in his world, was the strongest warlock alive. If anyone could cast a spell to teleport them to another dimension, it would be Stefan - and that damn idiot wouldn't break a sweat doing it either.]

Stefan?

What would he be able to do?

[Seriously, what the hell, Tyler.]

Besides, he hasn't been returning my phone calls. He's supposed to be researching things, but ...

But let me guess, he's being himself? [Tyler gulps down the last of his whiskey lemonade and reaches for the strap of his gold-plated watch.] I'll go talk to him.

The better question is what can't that idiot do. Just because he's the doppelganger of the world's strongest witch or whatever... [It's not said with malice; if anything, Tyler's a bit in awe (and respectful) of what Stefan can do.] If it's magic-related, you call him up.

Tyler, Stefan and Damon are vampires. They can't...do stuff like that.

I mean, they can do vampire things, but Bonnie's the witch...

[No wonder.

Tyler scoffs at the thought, because wow, his old family friends as vampires? Damon especially hates them, or well he did before Bonnie rolled into town.] Aaaand since Bonnie's trapped with Damon, your ace in the hole's gone. No wonder Stefanizo's gone AWOL.

[He'd probably take his watch off too, if Caroline disappeared like that.] Okay, look - maybe? Maybe they're somewhere in this city. We could look around and see if anyone's heard of them.

...Does he let you call him that?

[Because Stefan had never really been all that fond of Tyler that she remembered. ]

That's a good idea.

Wait, are you still a hybrid then or?

Just about always, yeah. [It earned him a lot of eye-rolling from Stefan, but that was how their friendship rolled. They insulted each other in public and acted all friend-like when they thought no one was watching.]

No? Klaus tried that, but he failed because of "science." [At this, he holds up his watch. At their distance, she can probably smell it - there's wolfsbane mixed in with apple and thymewood. It's his eternal power-nerfer, kind of like the daylight ring for werewolves.] Stefan has the complicated answer, but all I can tell you is this thing somehow puts the wolf to sleep.

[It hits him, as he stares at her--] Klaus succeeded where you're from, didn't he?

.....Yeah, he made you a hybrid and you were sired to him and then things got worse. And he kind of exiled you and we couldn't really see each for a long time.

And he was kind of trying to win me over, although he finally left town when we graduated and I've only seen him once since that time.

[Processing, processing....

What the hell. Where's a good bottle of whiskey when a guy needs one?] Wow, and here I thought my world sucked enough.

Is he gone? Last I remember, he peaced out pretty early for us.

Well, they all ended up moving down to New Orleans and we haven't seen them since Katherine died, so more or less?

[Not that he might not come back at some point, because who the hell knows with Klaus.]

But yeah, Tyler, I mean the one I dated, is ..well, like I said, we broke up and...I've been kind of busy or I was before coming here.

How'd Thomas take her death? [Genuine question: where he's from, Elena's and Stefan's doppelgangers were a package deal. You didn't really get one without the other.]

I mean... I don't like it, but I get it. Kinda. Did you, uh... ["Did you date anyone else?"] Nevermind.

...Who's Thomas?

[Yeah, she didn't like it either, but it was kind of her fault, at least so there's that.]

Did I what?

Thomas Avery? Stefan's doppelganger? [Maybe he shouldn't say this like it was common knowledge, but he wasn't understanding much of anything. This world was too strange to be like his, and yet too similar.]

It's not worth it, Care. I don't want to know if you like someone else.

...What does he have to do with Katherine?

And no, I've been a little busy trying to find a way to save Bonnie. [Although Enzo was pretty determined...]

They were together. [For lack of a better word to explain just how much they relied on each other, in a weird Bonnie-and-Clyde sense.

It's funny: he shouldn't be relieved to hear that. Bonnie's safety matters more than whether or not he and Caroline are dating, and yet, he can't help the smile that tugs on his lips.] O-oh. We should probably... start looking around, then. See if anyone's seen someone that matches her description.

Katherine wasn't 'with' anyone. She screwed everyone she met over.

[And the idea of Katherine in a relationship? Ew. And oh she saw that smile and that is bad news so she clears her throat and takes the topic change.]

Yeah, probably. I mean, if she's here.

[So did Thomas, actually - they deserved each other.]

Never hurts to look around. Worst-case scenario, at least we'll find something to eat too. [He's starting to wish Stefan were here; his bro was way better at this time-space dimension stuff.]
