There's a number of ways it could happen, but regardless you find yourself standing on the outskirts of a city. A beautiful city, as familiar to you as any from your world, with all manner of buildings within sight. A sign on the side of the road greets you, saying WELCOME TO COBA You're already part of the family! It's practically inviting you to step into the city limits. Why don't you?

As soon as you do, you'll find a pamphlet in your hand, almost eager to tell you all about what this mysterious Coba has to offer. And eager seems to be the impression you get about almost everything - the sun seems to brighten, the flowers seem to perk up - it's almost as if everything about Coba is welcoming you as an honored guest.

And you are. Though hopefully, only temporarily. Coba would love nothing more for you to become an honored member of her precious community.

Welcome to the City of Coba Testdrive! Your character has found themselves in Coba, and are welcome to do any of the following:

● As you enter the city, you hear some bustle about a homecoming party! Following the signs will find yourself at a plaza with food, drink and live music, of all sorts and types. Why don't you stay awhile and indulge?

● Or, if you're not the party type, maybe you'd like to check out the city's cultural center! There's art, books, and other things to keep your mind occupied. And, maybe you'll meet other like-minded people there.

● Not in the mood for any of the above? There's always the beach! It's a lovely day, the waves are beautiful and the stores along the boardwalk all have signs up that read "TAKE WHAT YOU NEED". Maybe you need a surf board.

● Or maybe you have something else you want to do? Go for it! You're more than welcome to come up with your own prompts.

In addition to the above, we would love to encourage anyone taking part in the testdrive to world build with us! Whether it be a street name or an entire neighborhood, whatever you come up with will become part of the game's canon. All we ask is that you pop over here to link us so we can see what you've done!

Finally, ENJOY YOURSELVES. Seriously, this is meant to be a laid back, enjoyable game. We welcome any questions, critiques, and ideas, so always feel welcome to approach us about any and everything.

[Oops. He should have slowed down. It's hard for him to gauge what she knows and what she doesn't, but this question is enough for him to do better with the explanation.]

Uh, you know what cameras are, right? There's a really small one in the phone, near the back part of it. You see that dark indention? That's where the lens is, and the rest of camera is built into the phone itself. All of the phone's parts are really compact.

If you want, I could take a picture and show you.

[Nagi leans in a little to check said dark indention. She nods quickly to the question on cameras, adding:]

I've experienced the process of picture taking before, yes.

[Of course the technology for it's a little clumsy still in her time but at least it isn't the turn of the century style anymore!

She looks completely fascinated by the idea.]

Would you mind?

[Awww, it's kind of cute how interested she is. It's been a while since he last saw someone so into something he considered mundane.]

I wouldn't mind at all! Do you want me to take a picture of you, or just snap a picture of the surroundings?

[Of her? She starts, flustering a bit. The Pixie atop her head laughs.]

Don't be shy about it!

I'm not shy precisely...

[It just seems like a rather egotistical choice, yes? Regardless, she ends up smiling a bit at the idea.]

I don't mind really.

[He laughs, at it's at her, yes, but not from anything born of malice. He holds up the phone, telegraphing it so that she can see the camera is pointed at her.]

All right, smile!

[She had expected this but... ah, just...]

He said smile, Nagi!

Y-Yes!

[Nailed it.]

[Tempting as it was to take her picture while she was still flustered, he waited until she was ready and smiled. It's bright enough outside to not require flash, so there's no real indication of him having taken her picture until he lowers the phone and begins to mess with it, smiling to himself until he nods and turns the screen to face her. There, on the phone's display, is the picture that he took of her and possibly her pixie.]

We're all done! What do you think?

[The Summoner doesn't disguise her inward lean to get a better look at the small screen. The Pixie even slides forward to look too. And sure enough yes, that's definitely her.]

That's fascinating! And in a matter of seconds too.

[That may be the most fascinating part of it all honestly.]

Does the picture remain on the device?

[He'll actually motion to let her hold the phone if she wants so she can get a better look. Meanwhile, he'll try to think of a way to explain things without overwhelming her. After a second of thought, he says:]

It does. There's a lot of technical stuff to it that I don't know about, but I'm pretty sure what it boils down to is that the picture is actually just data that phone holds, and the data doesn't take up physical space—it's just information. The phone can take that information and interpret it to an image.

If you want to get the picture out, then we have to send that information to another machine and get it printed.

[It's luckily not as overwhelming as it is complicated. Then again the production of photos in her time is a rather complicated process as well from what little she knows of it so it's easier to digest his explanation thanks to that.

She handles the phone quite gingerly a moment after he motions it to her. It's so small. The High Pixie leaves her perch to hover nearby the Summoner's hands.]

That's quite a few steps. Picture making isn't quite that simple no matter where you're from, it seems.

[That said, it's more than a little obvious wherever he's from is not quite the same as her own.]

Where are you from, if I may ask?

Tokyo, Japan.

[Then, after the briefest of pauses, he adds:]

The year for me is 2012.

... Ah. You're quite far from me then. I know of Tokyo City at least, though I've only visited the Capital City a few times.

The year for myself is Taisho 20.

[So while he isn't good enough to get an exact conversion, he does know the decades that the Taisho period spanned, and that it did not last until Taisho 20... In his world, at least. He won't mention that right off the bat, though. Time shenanigans are tricky, and he doesn't want to mettle with them.

Still, with that information and what she said about Tokyo, he has a better understanding of the relative time she's from.]

...That's interesting. In that case, I'm from about eighty to ninety years in your future! Or a future, at least.

How interesting. This dimension must be powerful is this is a show of it's capabilities.

[Powerful and quite beyond her capabilities to identify or rectify if the case involved demons or the supernatural of some sort. The Summoner runs a hand over one of the curls laying over her shoulder, looking concerned.]

[He looks unruffled, but he's just as concerned as she is. Things were supposed to be stable and peaceful, damn it, and they aren't. How did he or any of his companions miss a place like this? Maybe they were too focused on the immediate world-ending threats that they faced to realize that there were already places and things in the world that messed with the assumptions of what "normal" was.]

Yeah, I agree. Anything that can mess with time and space like this has got to be something really powerful. Certainly beyond the comprehension of mortal men, at the very least.

Very much so. I believe this requires further investigation then.

[That settles her mind somewhat on the issue. Though she has duties to Tsukigata and the Kuzunoha clans in general, this isn't something she can simply ignore either.

... Should she go to the Yatagarasu directly about it? Should she speak with Raidou-senpai first? As the up and coming Geirin Kuzunoha, she would do well by taking more initiative in this.]

Yeah, I plan on looking into it. I'm supposed to be here for vacation, but a mystery makes it more fun!

[He does have people he plans on telling about this place, but... Well, the situation with demons and the supernatural isn't as clear-cut as it used to be, and he isn't sure if anyone would be able to do something about it, even if they wanted to. Ugh, peaceful days were supposed to be have arrived and stayed! But, well, if there's a problem, he's not going to ignore it. He'll see it through with no complaints.]

Are you a detective of some sort, Hibiki-san?

[That question catches him off guard, and he laughs in surprise. She's the first one who's mistaken him for such, but there was someone else who once said he'd make for a good one too.]

Nope! I'm just a normal guy, but I've got some friends in high places—one of them is a detective, and I know a few people in the government too.

I see. It sounded like you like a good mystery though so I was theorizing.

[At that she smiles a bit, stroking one of her front curls.]

Then let's try to work together, Hibiki-san. At the very least we may share what we learn with one another, yes? Until we find a way home.

[His smile grows wider as he nods.]

Sounds good. If I learn anything interesting while I'm here, I'll let you know. I'll be here for at least a few more days before heading back—I mean, this is supposed to be a vacation for me, so why waste it?

A very good attitude to take on it. Thank you then, Hibiki-san. I hope the rest of your stay proves to be an enjoyable process.

Don't get into trouble!

[He laughs at High Pixie's comment]

In that case, I'll make sure to get in to as much trouble as I can! [To Nagi:] You're welcome, and thank you too, Nagi. Have a good time, and I'll see around!

[With that said, he gives a friendly wave to Nagi and polite nod to High Pixie before wandering off to explore the rest of the city]
