[It's a beautiful morning in this part of Coba! The sun is shining, the birds are singing - or at least they were until a few seconds ago. Suddenly, the city is plunged into darkness again, and the streets start to fill with people dressed in outrageous costumes. There's music in the air and all traffic is stopped for the parade of revellers heading down the street. Anyone from New Orleans might find the spectacle rather familiar, but for anyone else it's still an excuse to party like the night never ended]

Or maybe it's just Stefan, why would I want to relive something I never went to in the first place? [at least, not the modern version of high school]

I did the college thing, but that's about it. And I haven't done that in a long time.

[Touche. Stefan was always weirdly academic, bringing his stupid big brain into everything.] See, I get re-living college. There's hundreds of degrees to choose from, and Greek life never gets old.

It's high school that wigs me out. Why bother with all that again?

See, I love Greek life. Or really, I enjoy the parties, because college girls. [not that he'd be doing any of that anymore, really. He had Elena, and he'd mostly used those parties as a way to find a bite to eat]

Masochism. Stupidity. Some mixture of both. Who knows with Stefan?

[Damon, talking about women like that? Now that's a first. Tyler might have nearly choked on his tea. Coughing, he takes a second and--oh. Oh good, he's fine. No dead werewolves in this bar.]

I vote for stupidity. [Trying not to focus on Damon and women, because that is not a road Tyler wants to explore.] But that does remind me - how exactly do you plan on "blending in" here?

[that earns Tyler a strange look. What did he say? He wasn't sure, but he made a mental note to repeat it somehow, because that was pretty amusing]

[He's still a little stuck on the idea of Damon frequenting frat parties. Day and Jenna had to talk to him once about women, because he "sure wasn't treating them like people."

Guess I should figure out if college's worthwhile here too.

Maybe? I'm sure Elena and Caroline will eventually, too, if they both plan on staying. [and considering that magical barrier bullshit back home, he figured they would be soon or later]

Probably. [They seem more like the Elena and Caroline he knew, anyways.] Knowing them, Care'd sign up for like, fifty million clubs and Elena'd be all about the pre-med life.

Me, though... I'd start a chapter of Theta Omega. Might as well have a safe space for people like us around town.

I wasn't keeping up on what they were doing in college, but that sounds about right. I don't know what's going on for both of them, but last I checked it was their first semester. [a wry, brief half-smirk] There's time shenanigans going on.

You mean to tell me there's a fraternity for vampires and werewolves? [color him surprised] Not at Whitmore, right?

[He'd just ended his first semester - so they were close. Kind of, if parallel universes could even be close.]

Yeah, at Whitmore. We don't exactly advertise ourselves as a frat for vampires or werewolves or witches or the random psychic, but it exists. Has existed, since the 80's? [Now he's just confused.] Let me guess - your world doesn't have that.

[ha ha ha, he makes a face, finishing off his glass, finally]

Nope. The Whitmore I know had some secret society researching into making vampires that feed on other vampires. [his lips twist into a humorless grin] It was fun, except for where it wasn't.

[Even for him, that's a bit much. What kind of sadist would keep that operation going?] Wait, what was the society called again?

Augustine.

[he reached for the bottle to refill his glass and immediately took another, long drink. His small amount of restraint was the only thing keeping him from downing it all. Wouldn't do to let on that maybe it kind of bothered him] Been around for a long time.

[Now he wants another subject change, because other-Damon worked for Augustine. (Granted, other-Damon peaced out of Augustine a long time ago, but that was a twisted connection Tyler didn't want to think about.)] Good to know. I'll... well, I'll see if this place's got anything remotely similar.

[ah yes, there goes the rest of his drink. He grins, wide and without humor]

Oh, don't worry, I'll be personally checking on that, too.

[He's gonna go request a refill of his coffee now.] Just for the record, if anyone asks me later about your college visit, I know nothing.

[he's joking, but . . . no, wait. He sounds serious. Well, Damon-serious]

[if they're Augustine they totally deserve it, mind compulsion is only there for additional entertainment, duh]

It's the same for Elena, 'cause she's still human for me, and probably for your Stefan whenever he shows up. [At this point, it's really a "when" rather than an "if."] I know you guys and yet I don't.

I'm sure you'll be different to them, too. I bet no one's filled you in on what you're like.

You mean the asshole who let Klaus walk all over him? [It's a bit more biting than he intended, but he's been mad at his alternate self for a while now.] I've heard bits and pieces.

[that gets a laugh out of Damon, and he reaches for the bottle to refill his drink, his expression nothing but amused]

Yep, that asshole. Not that I want to give the guy any credit, he's lumped in with the other idiots for being completely useless, but he did do some things that turned out to be close to useful.
